Chemical interactions

by Richard Johnson
(Havelock, NC)

Using two tablespoons of vinegar, half teaspoon of baking soda, small cup for each child and very dirty pennies.

Each child will put a half teaspoon of baking soda and two tablespoons of vinegar into his small cup. He will then place a dirty penny into the cup and stir it with a stick. The child will watch the penny become clean.

Tell me what happened. Let's do it again with another penny.
